Closing Symposium “Reflecting Conservation Forward”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The symposium with its extensive national, international and interdisciplinary program was successfully organised and attended by 45 people on site and online.
Head of project Gabriela Krist opened the event with a review of the IoC’s 15 years involvement in conservation at Patan Darbar Square. Marija Milchin, Katharina Fuchs and Meral Hietz gave insights into their specialist fields of stone and metal conservation conducted in Patan. Martina Haselberger presented the IoC’s long-term Collection Care project at the Patan Museum and drew the attention to conservation in a Living Heritage Site.    
Guest speakers from Nepal provided insights into their work in the field of cultural heritage conservation. Suresh Man Lakhe spoke about the Patan Museum and care of its collections, Pranam Hora about the participation of local communities in conservation projects and Saroj Maharjan about traditional conservation practices in Nepal. Rohijt Ranjitkar, director of the Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust (KVPT) presented the NGO\u2019s conservation and restoration efforts after the devastating earthquake in 2015, and Padma Maharjan introduced listeners to the Traditional Buildings Inventory in Nepal.          
Nina Mirnig from the Austrian Academy of Science highlighted the importance of documenting inscriptions as a source of knowledge in Nepal, while Rajan Khatiwoda from the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities talked about digital preservation of cultural heritage in Nepal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
